Free WordPress Update Impact and Visual Inspection Plugin

Capture a trusted baseline on staging and inspect selected pages after an update. The bundled self-hosted browser runner compares desktop and mobile screenshots, heading and button text, failed HTTP requests and browser errors. Before, after and pixel-difference evidence appears in your WordPress dashboard. Updates remain under your control.

How to use update impact inspector

  1. Select up to three public URLs and mask dynamic page regions in the Tools page.
  2. Install the bundled Node and Playwright runner, then supply an administrator Application Password through the environment.
  3. Run baseline against a healthy site. Apply the update on staging, then run compare.
  4. Review visual and structural changes. Optionally schedule watch to compare when the active version inventory changes.

Questions and limits

Does it update or roll back plugins?

No. It captures evidence around updates you perform. It does not create staging, disable automatic updates or roll back database changes.

Is a visual difference necessarily a bug?

No. It is a review signal. Dynamic regions can be masked and the changed-pixel threshold is configurable. Baselines with HTTP or browser failures are rejected.

What does the screenshot cover?

The first 800 vertical pixels at desktop 1280px and mobile 390px widths. The runner checks heading and button structure and errors but does not click buttons or verify complete user journeys.

Is watch a background service?

No. It runs once when inventory differs from the last comparison. Schedule the command on your own machine. The existing baseline remains until you explicitly capture a new one.
