Free Scheduled WordPress Maintenance Mode Plugin

Put a WordPress site into maintenance mode for a defined window, then automatically return to normal at the end of the window. Set a title and message, preview the page as an administrator, and keep admin access available while visitors receive a 503 response. The plugin uses your WordPress site timezone.

VERSION 1.0.0 · GPL-2.0-OR-LATER

The ZIP includes source code, installation notes and a license. This release has not been submitted to the WordPress.org directory.

How to use scheduled maintenance

  1. Download the ZIP, then open Plugins > Add New > Upload Plugin in WordPress.
  2. Install and activate it, then open Tools > WP Symposium Maintenance.
  3. Set a start and end time, enter your message, and enable the schedule.
  4. Preview the page, purge any page/CDN cache, and check as a logged-out visitor. Requests after the end time return to normal.

Questions and limits

Can administrators still use the website?

Yes. Users with manage_options bypass maintenance mode. An authenticated, nonce-protected preview lets an administrator see the visitor page.

Does automatic expiry require WP-Cron?

No. The plugin checks the schedule when a request reaches WordPress. Cached pages can outlive the schedule, so configure or purge your page and CDN caches.

Does it use a subscription or external service?

No. It stores its settings in your WordPress database and does not call an external service.

Can I submit it to WordPress.org?

This is a downloadable initial release. It has not been published in the directory. Directory submission and review are separate steps.
