Your file stays on this device. Images are listed in a media manifest, not downloaded. Review custom blocks, shortcodes and tables after conversion. CSV formula-like cells are prefixed with an apostrophe for safer spreadsheet opening.
How to use wordpress export converter
- In WordPress, open Tools > Export and download an XML file. Export in batches if it exceeds 20 MB.
- Choose the XML file here. It stays on your device.
- Select Markdown ZIP, CSV or JSON. Draft and private content are excluded by default.
- Review the downloaded files, custom blocks, shortcodes and media URLs before importing or publishing.
Questions and limits
Does the tool upload my export?
No. XML parsing, conversion and ZIP creation run in your browser. Close the tab to discard the selected file from this tool.
Are images included in the ZIP?
No. The media manifest lists attachment URLs from the export. You still need to transfer the actual files and update links for your destination site.
Does it convert every plugin block perfectly?
No. It converts the exported HTML to Markdown. Shortcodes, complex tables and custom plugin blocks can need manual cleanup.
Can I use this as a full WordPress backup?
No. WXR exports contain content, not the complete database, plugins, themes or uploaded files. Use a full backup before a migration.
