Free WordPress Email Diagnostics Plugin

Find out how WordPress is configured to hand off email and whether the latest wp_mail call succeeded or failed. See the mailer, SMTP host, port and encryption settings without displaying credentials. The plugin records a redacted status for the latest mail attempt and offers an explicit test-send button in wp-admin.

VERSION 1.0.0 · GPL-2.0-OR-LATER

Your site. Your plugin.

Requires WordPress 6.8+ and PHP 7.4+. Install from a ZIP in your WordPress dashboard. Test on staging before using it on a live site.

How to use email diagnostics

  1. Upload and activate the plugin ZIP from Plugins > Add New.
  2. Open Tools > WP Symposium Mail Diagnostics to inspect the latest captured configuration.
  3. If needed, enter an address you control and click Send test email. This sends one real email.
  4. Check the inbox and spam folder. A successful handoff does not prove inbox delivery; use the report to investigate with your host or mail provider.

Questions and limits

Does activating the plugin send an email?

No. It only observes mail attempts already made by WordPress. Sending a test requires an administrator to submit the test form.

Are passwords or message bodies logged?

No. It stores mailer configuration without credentials and a generic handoff result. It does not store recipient addresses, subjects, message bodies or raw provider error text.

Does a successful result mean the email reached the inbox?

No. It means wp_mail reported a successful handoff. Delivery and spam filtering happen after that and require separate investigation.

Does it replace an SMTP plugin?

No. It observes the configured mailer and helps troubleshoot it. It does not change SMTP settings or provide a delivery service.
